Job Description

DORNIM SOLICITORS AND LEGAL CONSULTANTS is a reputable law firm based in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State. The firm is looking to hire an Associate with excellent academics and at least five years’ experience in corporate/commercial work gained either in a law firm or as an in-house lawyer. This is purely a corporate/commercial role involving no litigation.
•                        Taking instructions from and exploring legal options with the client, his professional team or any relevant third parties;
  • •                        Providing expert legal support and advice to clients;
  • •                        Drafting, reviewing and negotiating agreements;
  • •                        Advising on financing of commercial projects and/or transactions, and acquisition and disposal of assets;
  • •                        Researching and analyzing the law on complex issues and writing opinions for submission to a supervising lawyer;
  • •                        Synthesizing legal research and analysis into a coherent written memorandum or brief for submission to a client or arbitrator;
  • •                        Appearing in arbitration or other judicial tribunal on behalf of the firms client, as well as presenting well-reasoned arguments to the judicial body;
  • •                        Negotiating with outside parties on contractual issues and legal disputes, including settlement conferences;
  • •                        Anticipating and mitigating potential legal problems within the law firm or for a client — and developing strategies to avoid costly litigation and reduce potential areas of risk;
  • •                        Performing due diligence in legal matters concerning contracts, agreements, mergers and acquisitions, etc ;
  • •                        Carrying out Company secretarial duties;
  • •                        Advising clients on legal/regulatory, compliance and policy developments;
  • •                        Actively involved in business development of the practice;
  • •                        Attend to smaller matters and aspects of larger matters independently; and
  • •                        Any other reasonable duties delegated by any Partner of the firm.

  • Strong and practical commercial sense is necessary, as you will need to work with current client base as well develop new business strategy;
  • Experienced in managing relationships with clients on a day to day basis;
  • A good network of contacts in the local and/or national market and/or a track record of business development would be beneficial;
  • Experience in Company Secretarial duties will be an advantage;
  • Knowledge and experience in the following industries/sectors will be an advantage:  the power industry/ oil and gas industry /maritime industry/telecommunications industry/real estate sector;
  • Excellent communication, research and legal drafting skills; and
  • Good IT skills in Microsoft outlook, MS Word, Excel and Power Point
